A fill in the blank Worksheet for Food Chains and Food Webs

A Powerpoint for Food Chains

(Amy Price)

Food Chain and Food Web Activity

(Monica Dvorak)

Instructions:

1. Choose one type of ecosystem.
2. Choose the following organisms:

4 Producers
5 herbivores or primary consumers
5 Small carnivores or secondary consumers
4 Large carnivores or tertiary or top consumers

1. Create 5 food chains from the list of organisms in your chart. Be sure to use the organisms at least once.
A.

B.

C.

D.

E.

2. Create a rough draft of a food web BELOW by combining your food chains. In your food web, an animal should only be written once (connect it to the other food chains by arrows). Begin adding more arrows to the other animals if it is possible.

3. Create a good copy of your food web. You must DRAW the organisms in the food web. If you are not a good artist (like me), label the organism below with a name.

Questions:
__

1. What does your diagram illustrate?

2. Group the organisms into a chart of producers, herbivores, omnivores and carnivores.

3. Group the organisms into a chart of trophic levels. (i.e - trophic level 1, t.l. 2, t.l 3, etc)

4. List the organisms that are in more than one trophic level.

5. Which organisms are top consumers?

6. Choose 3 organisms off of your food web and answer the following questions. Look at each organism individually (you will answer these questions for each of the three organisms separately)
A. What could happen to cause a decrease in the organism? What would happen to the organisms around this organism if there was a great decrease?

B. What could cause an increase in this organism? What would happen to the organisms around this organism if there was a great increase?

7. List 4 biotic factors in your ecosystem.

8. List 4 abiotic factors in your ecosystem.

9. List three things that humans do that impact your ecosystem negatively.
